Not content with winning the Golden Globe awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press for Best Director and Best Picture for The Revenant (The Reborn), the Mexican film director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu swept the nominations for the Oscars, with the Golden 12 nominations statuette.
His film, which recounts the odyssey of survival of Hugh Glass in 1820, earned nominations for Best Picture of the Year, Best Director, Best Cinematography (Emmanuel aka Mexican Lubesky "the Goat"), for Best Actor ( Leonardo DiCaprio) and Best Actor (Tom Hardy), among others.
A year ago, Gonzalez Inarritu won the Academy Award for Best Picture by Birdman and dedicated his appreciation to all immigrants, for those who asked to be treated with respect and dignity. To celebrate its new nomination, he criticized the Mexican director Donald Trump, who accused him of being a poor man who only has money.
Emannuel Lubesky countryman, another Mexican awarded and considered one of the best photographers of world cinema, will compete for the Oscar for best cinematography for The Revenant, in marking its third consecutive nomination dehaber then won the medal for Gravity and Birdman.
Gonzalez Inarritu celebrated his new nomination with a shot of mezcal, a typical drink of the Mexican state of Oaxaca. For our part we wish him all the luck in the prize-giving ceremony on 28 February.
